This protest happened on Sunday, May 15 2011. The reason behind this is because of a rape trial in Toronto whereby the victim was blamed for the the crime committed due to the way she dressed. If the word “slut” was used in court, I would say that was uncalled for and they could have used a better and more civilized word for it.
Halloween is already a day many women are using as an excuse to dress cheaply. Do not only blame the people who commit the sexual assaults. There is a reason why some women dress a certain way and one of the main reasons is that want attention. We are not saying you can’t dress the way you want. Just that actions have consequences and you just have to pay for them.
You can blame men to be the cause of everything. Firstly, just blame society in general. Even if these people already admit to themselves that they have a problem, it is hard for them to seek help because they shame their family. By the time they come to terms with the problem, the deed has been done and therefore a crime.
It is all about stereotyping. They should have come up with a better name than “Slutwalk”. How many parents do you know who would just let their children wear what they want and not judge them. Just dress decently. There are ways to dress up and look attractive and not as though “you are asking for it” There is a reason why women dress a certain way that they do. It is because they want to attract attention. They are attention seekers. If you are showing certain areas to draw certain attention they you should know what will come out of it.
All in all, some “Slutwalk” supporters have the audacity to look at another woman and judge her on the way she dresses and calling her a whore. Well that is that is the same thing. If you don’t want the attention, don’t dress that way. Simple equation of action and reaction. After all we humans are all animals to begin with. All this is based on stereotyping, Psychiatric problems and judging.
Change the name of the cause and it might have a better stand without so much controversy.
